of our premises |
Terra Firma Law
is located at 228 Mary Street. Renovations are only just completed. This
wonderful building is now even more delightful with
a brand new façade. Beautiful porcelain tiles
and a swishy new reception have now left a brand new impression
in Mary Street. Every single external brick has been
re-pointed, all the walls freshly painted, the floors re-carpeted
and the inside has been reconfigured. The atmosphere is warm
and welcoming and the energy is overflowing! Our business
in housed within three-brick thick brick walls and is three
storeys tall. There is a narrow timber stair case with twenty
little steps leading you to the top floor. It is a charming
building and one with wonderful history, which keeps unfolding
as we meet more lively members of the older generations.
We have done a little detective work and below are some of
the business who has shared this address since it was erected:
The Gympie Truth Apparently this
newspaper operated from our premises at 228 Mary Street. History
tells us it was established by Andrew Fisher, then reporter
who went on to be one of Australia's first Prime Ministers. His
original house is located among others at the Gympie Gold
Mining Museum.
Toop Bros Dry Cleaners Dirty laundry
was cleaned and clothes were altered here by Toop Bros Dry
Cleaners. A client of Michael Kerr found an old sign at the
Tip and handed it on to Michael. We have an enlarged version
framed in our office. Come and have a look, but please
don't bring your dry cleaning with you!
Primaries Primaries were
Stock and Station Agents. There was a wide variety of rural
merchandise available here, even fuel. This explains the chain
wire fence and loading dock at the rear of the premises.
Kerr and Kerr Originally established
by Michael Kerr's Father. Mr. Kerr Sr. closed the practice
for two years during WW2, whilst he was serving in the Army
and referred all work to his Brisbane Town Agents. Michael
Kerr took over the practice when his Father passed away.
Michael then purchased the premises after Primaries vacated.
Kerr and Kerr, including Michael's wife Kay, conducted the
practice here until Michael and Kay retired on 30 June, 2008.
Terra
Firma Law - Commenced practice from 1 July 2008. We too
intend to be around for a very long time. We genuinely look
forward to assisting more wonderful members of Gympie's community
and the areas beyond. It is a privilege and a pleasure to
get to know our Clients and their families, a position of
trust which we respect and protect at all times. We
really are here to help, so please come in and meet
us for yourself, it is true … We
are not what you're expecting
